JibberJobber Job Search Widget, Version 2!

JibberJobber Job Search Widget, Version 2! We have released the new version of the Job Search Widget. This is on the heels of the first release almost a month ago, and we have incorporated the requests weve gotten.  This makes the widget more robust and functional. Most of the functionality is similar to what we had before, but note: the first arrow, we changed Description to Job Description. Never a bad idea to be super clear Super awesome additonal functionality, we are now doing associations like you see on the web and mobile apps so from this new Job, you can associate Contacts and Companies. Like on the web, start typing a name and youll see a dropdown of options to choose from. This is a superpower of JibberJobber to map all of the connections and companies and contacts and now you can do it with the widget. We also added the Tags to a new record.  Tags are also a very powerful part of JibberJobber, and an important way to organize the data you are collecting. If you have any requests, let us know! The next big project for this team is to go into version 2 of the mobile app.  I expect great things JibberJobber Job Search Widget, Version 2! A Short Guide to Household Debt

A Short Guide to Household Debt As of May last year, the USA’s household debt was at a record high level of $11.65 trillion according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The biggest cause of this debt was mortgages, accounting for just over $8 trillion, followed closely by credit card debt and student loan debt. Whilst debt traditionally brings negative connotations, some debt can be positive â€" helping the economy strengthen and be managed efficiently. Here is a short guide to debt, helping   debtors understand their position and their options. Secured v Unsecured Debt A secured debt is essentially a debt which has had collateral offered against it the most common of which are mortgages. The collateral offered against the mortgage is the property purchased with the loaned amount, which can be repossessed by the bank or lender if repayments are not made. Similarly, an automobile bought with financing is subject to secured debt with the automobile offered as collateral. Secured debts can often be considered a ‘good debt’ as they are the long-term purchase of a product and equity is being invested in. Furthermore, large-scale purchases of homes and cars can benefit the economy, helping to re-strengthen the financial structure of the country following the global recession. InControl explain in further detail the types of debt which can be considered ‘good debt’. An unsecured debt is a debt which has been agreed upon without collateral offered. There are a number of different forms of unsecured debt, of which credit card debt is the most common in the USA. Other forms of unsecured debt include store card debt, student loans, utility bills debt, rent arrears, personal loan debt and more. Debt Management As circumstances and financial situations change over time (often unexpectedly) it can become difficult to cover debt payments. There are a selection of debt management schemes and options available for people struggling with both secured and unsecured debts. These options can often help realign repayment amounts better suited to the debtor or even completely wipe out the debt within 12 months. A debt consolidation loan is an additional loan which incorporates a lower repayment amount, helping debtors cover the entirety of their debt with a payment scheme suited to their income. HSBC offer debt consolidation loans which will immediately pay off existing debts, allowing debtors to repay this consolidation loan at a lower rate. Alternatively, a debt management plan employs an experienced advisor to negotiate a lower rate of repayment with a debtor’s creditors. By demonstrating the benefits of accepting this new rate to the creditors (mostly, the added guarantee of being paid in full), the advisor can often negotiate a more favourable repayment rate and freeze additional charges and interest rates. When all other alternatives have been exhausted, an individual may apply for bankruptcy â€" wiping out many forms of debts. However, this often has numerous negative effects including seriously impacting upon the bankrupt party’s credit rating and their ability to make future investments.   Accordingly, you should learn what all the results of filing bankruptcy are for your situation, and learn how to file for bankruptcy should you decide to take that path. If you are struggling with debt, it may be beneficial to talk to an advisor  â€" helping you find the ideal solution to your situation.

Money does grow on trees... sort of

Money does grow on trees... sort of It might shock you to hear that its easier to find money to fund your business idea than it is to find an idea. A good idea, that is. There are two kinds of good ideas. The first one is for a small business that will not grow but will sustain the lifestyle you want for yourself: Opening a gift shop on a Hawaiian beach, for example. The second kind of idea is one that will be big. Big in that you can grow into a big player or you can sell to a big player. A lot of people have ideas, but they dont dwell on them because people assume startup money is hard to come by. But its not. So dont be shy about moving forward with an idea. The fastest source for money when you have no money is, of course, your credit card. Almost forty percent of small businesses owners started their company with credit cards. If you can get one of those 0% interest offers, the credit card option starts looking particularly good. But if you lose the money, its your money. So dont use credit if you cant afford to pay it back. Angel investors are constantly looking to invest in companies that will grow big. If you have this kind of idea there are plenty of angels to choose from. A good place to start is online, looking for people who invest in early stage companies in your market. The important issues will be finding someone smart and experienced who can help you grow the company to the next stage. In exchange for giving up a percentage of the ownership of your company, you should get solid mentoring as well as money. The network and advice that an angel offers is what separates the amazing ones from the mediocre. If your business will not be big, then your pool of angels is pretty much limited to people who know you well and want to do you a favor. But there are ways you can structure a deal so that your friends and family feel like its a decent investment. First, offer to pay an interest rate a little higher than a bank would pay. If that doesnt work, offer to give equity in the company. Paying a percentage of profits is very cumbersome since youll likely have to produce detailed financial statements. So make that an offer of last resort. By all means, put together a professional presentation for the angels. But keep in mind that on some level, these people come to the table based on their trust and respect for you. And thats what you are trading on when it comes to early-stage funding. This is especially true if youve never started a company before and cant sell yourself based on your track record. This is not such bad news, though, because most of you can come up with a list of fifty people who trust you. The list of people who trust you and have money to invest is probably shorter. So divide the list into As, Bs and Cs. The As are people who have a lot of money and a lot of investments. The Bs are financially stable people who would think very, very hard before forking over $25,000. The Cs are people who dont really have the financial resources to invest in your operation, but they might vouch for you to someone they know who does have money. Practice your pitch on your Cs and Bs so that by the time you get to your As you really know what youre doing. The most important thing, no matter what kind of business you are pitching, is to not give up early. If there are no investors, you might have a clunker of an idea on your hands. But a little rejection happens to a lot of good ideas. So brace yourself as you look for funding and keep going right past the rejections. You might be a star as an entrepreneur and youll never know until you try.

Happiness is just around the corner - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog I had to share this wonderful cartoon: By Polyp Theres also a cool animated version: Does anyone honestly think that making more money, consuming more stuff, driving a bigger car or bagging that fancy title will make them happier? It seems that many people consistently focus their time and energy on getting things that wont make them happy to the cost of the simple but important factors: Friends, family, meaning and fun.
